The Canine Epilepsy Project

The Canine Epilepsy Project
(http://www.canine-epilepsy.net/index.html)

This site is provided as a resource for all those concerned with canine epilepsy: owners and breeders of affected dogs, veterinarians, neurologists, and researchers. Researchers working on this project need information from affected dogs and their families.

VetGen Veterinary Genetic Services

VetGen
(http://www.vetgen.com)

For its cataract research project, VetGen is seeking DNA samples from at least two or more affected dogs within a litter (or one each from a repeat breeding), DNA from the parents (at least one, preferably both) and DNA from one or two of the unaffected littermates. For the PRA project, which is further along, VetGen needs only DNA samples from the affected dogs. The dogs’ pedigrees should also be included.

AKC Canine Health Foundation

AKC Canine Health Foundation
(http://www.akcchf.org)

Read abstracts for the different research projects currently underway at the AKC's Canine Health Foundation, and learn about the CHF's goals and purposes. A contact address for donations is also provided.

C.E.R.F.

CERF
(www.vmdb.org/cerf.html)

The Canine Eye Registration Foundation (C.E.R.F.) is an organization that was founded by a group of concerned, purebred owner/breeders who recognized that the quality of their dog's lives were being affected by heritable eye disease. C.E.R.F. was then established in conjunction with cooperating, board certified, veterinary ophthalmologists, as a means to accomplish the goal of elimination of heritable eye disease in all purebred dogs by forming a centralized, national registry.

O.F.A.

OFA
(www.offa.org/index.html)

The OFA is a not-for-profit organization originally created to assist breeders in addressing hip dysplasia. In recent years OFA has added databases to assist breeders in assessing elbow and patella deformities, craniomandibular osteopathy, autoimmune thyroiditis, congenital heart disease, copper toxicosis in Bedlington Terriers, and DNA databases.
