The ASC Board meeting, held April 5 at the Las Vegas Hilton, was most productive.  Minutes will appear later in the Bulletin so I won’t repeat here other than to say we made great strides in finalizing standing rules of order and financial guidelines.

There was also a Finance Committee meeting April 6 and we should be on our way to an audit by July. Judging results for January are tabulated and will also be communicated shortly as soon as judges elected have accepted. Some of you have asked how these votes are tabulated. Just FYI – our Secretary Kathy Patterson uses non-ASC members at the University of Kentucky Extension Service to count the ballots. In this case – twice – because in this election – some candidates were separated by just a single vote! Yes, a single vote! It may be trite to say – but every vote counts. Is that ballot still in your ‘to-do’ pile? Maybe next election – just do it…right away.

I wanted to give you some advance notice about a ballot on by-laws changes coming in the next month or so. The 2006/2007 ASC Boards created, and approved - with AKC sanction and approval  – some by-laws revisions to clean up some areas and make some improvements to club processes. Also included are some changes to terms of office. When ballots are sent to you each proposed change will have an explanation for its origin and reasoning for its recommended approval. Each change is a separate vote – and you as the membership must approve changes by a 2/3 majority of members voting for each one to take effect. The 2008 Board has reviewed the ballot format and I think you will find it easy to use. As newly elected President, this process started before my term of office – but these are changes we talked about making when I served on previous boards. I think they are reasoned and well explained and hope you see your way clear to approve them. Of course – I welcome you contacting me if you have a concern or question.   

Last month I wrote about a proposal for ASC to think globally in building alliances with parent clubs in other geographies. If you missed that note – Jean our webmaster saved it in the archives. While this idea isn’t fully thought through yet nor presented to the Board for consideration – I’m going to be working on that in the coming months and propose something in July. My thanks to those of you who expressed support – and to some foreign clubs who suggested we do something like this in January 09.   

Speaking of our website – how do you like the new format and design – courtesy of our web team? I think it’s great – and did you notice the font size feature in the upper left hand corner?  (A+A A-) Just for those of us in need of reading glasses. And Pay Pal is coming! Details to work out but it’s in development – but imagine the shopping advantages!
